Roadrunners Quiet Storm for Road Sweep

SALEM, Ore. - The Linn-Benton baseball team needed extra innings and an outstanding performance on the mound to win two games at Chemeketa Community College. The visitors took the first game 4-2 in twelve innings, then won 4-0 in the second contest in a seven inning game.

Game 1:

The Roadrunners (13-3-1, 9-3 NWAC South) fell behind early, surrendering a run in the bottom of the first. A Conner Boyd single in the top of the third inning drove in Kolten Lindstrom to even the score at 1-1, but the Storm (8-11, 2-8 NWAC South) would answer in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double from Carlos Cervantes to retake the lead 2-1.

Linn-Benton would trail until the top of the seventh inning, as Jackson Fera's sacrifice fly would drive in Chanz Flores to even the game at 2-2. The teams battled into extra innings and in the top of the twelfth inning the bats came alive.

Flores led off the inning with a double, and then scored on a Jacob Dodge double. Andrew Demianew would hit a single that sent Dodge across home plate and secured a 4-2 lead. Pitcher Easton Corey started off the bottom of the inning with a walk, then struck out the next three batters to complete the comeback. Corey was also credited with the win.

Game 2:

Freshman Pitcher Caden Richardson went the distance in the seven inning contest, scattering five hits and allowing no runs or walks. The offense was able to get some momentum as well to complement Richardson's performance.

The Roadrunners got on the board with a Nick Biagi two-run homerun in the top of the second inning that also scored Jake Holmes. Holmes would then hit a double in the fourth inning that scored Lindstrom to make it 3-0 for the visitors. Eli Rolfe would hit a solo homerun in the seventh inning to make the final 4-0.

Linn-Benton will next host Clackamas Community College at home Thursday March 27, with the contests scheduled to start at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Both games are scheduled for nine innings.
