Game 2
ALBANY, Ore. - The Linn-Benton baseball team fell to Umpqua Community College in a pair of games at Dick McClain Field. The Roadrunners (10-2, 2-2 NWAC South) lost 5-1 in game one and 6-4 in game two, a seven inning contest.
In the first contest Umpqua (7-3, 3-1 NWAC South) scored in the top of the first to take a 1-0 advantage, before a Kellen Segel triple in the fourth inning would score Chanz Flores to even the score at one run apiece. The Riverhawks would respond with four runs in the sixth inning and held the Roadrunner offense scoreless, allowing just three hits as they secured the win.
The second game, scheduled for seven innings, saw the Roadrunners strike first as Camden Johnson scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second inning to give the hosts the lead. Umpqua would get a run back in the fourth inning, but the bottom of the fourth saw Linn-Benton score three runs.
Tyson McGrorty doubled to score Johnson, then would cross home plate on a sacrifice fly from Noah Scharer. Bryant Starr would later single to score Jacob Lindstrom which made the score 4-1 in favor of the hosts.
The Riverhawks battled back and some timely hitting along with defensive errors by the Roadrunners allowed the visitors to score two runs in the fifth inning, then score three more in the seventh inning to steal the victory from the hosts. All five runs scored by the Riverhawks were scored as unearned runs.
Linn-Benton will next take the field against Clackamas Community College on Thursday, March 5. That doubleheader has been relocated to Dick McClain Field with start times of 11:00AM and 2:00PM. The first game is scheduled for nine innings, while the second game is slated for seven innings.
