ALBANY, Ore. - The Linn-Benton baseball team faced the Titans of Lane Community College and after losing the first game of the doubleheader were able to win the second contest to earn a split. Linn-Benton fell 12-2 in the first contest, then won 4-3 in the second contest which was a seven inning game.
Game 1: The Roadrunners (15-3, 7-3 NWAC South) got on the board first as a triple from Kellen Segel would score Chanz Flores in the bottom of the second inning. Segel would then score from third as Aiden Hazen attempted to steal second base, getting caught in a run down that allowed his teammate to cross the plate and make it 2-0.
The Titans (14-6, 7-3 NWAC South) would come alive with a huge fifth inning as they scored six runs, then four more in the sixth inning and finally two more in the seventh inning to win 12-2 in seven innings. Lane hit the ball well, but were also aided by six defensive errors from the hosts in the victory.
Game 2: The visitors would continue their strong offensive performance, scoring in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Linn-Benton would even the score in the bottom of the second inning as an RBI double from Jack Lussier scored Tyson McGrorty to make it 1-1. The Titans would retake the lead in the fourth inning as they scored one run, then another in the fifth inning to make it 3-1 for the visitors.
Linn-Benton again battled back in the bottom of the fifth inning, as a Chanz Flores sacrifice fly scored Noah Scharer, then a single from Segel scored Landon Lea to even the score at 3-3. Scharer would come up big in the sixth inning as his RBI double scored Lussier to give the Roadrunners a one run lead.
In the top of the seventh inning, Lane had runners on first and second with just one out and Dayne Castillo on to pitch in relief. Castillo forced a groundball that the Roadrunners converted into a double play, sealing the victory. Evan Lehnert earned the win in relief while Dayne Castillo picked up the save.
Linn-Benton are next scheduled to travel for a pair of road games against Mt. Hood Community College on Friday, March 20. Those games are currently scheduled for 1:00PM and 4:00PM start times.
