Linn-Benton Win Two Against Clackamas

OREGON CITY, Ore. - The Linn-Benton baseball team completed a series sweep of Clackamas on Saturday in a doubleheader played at Oregon City high school. The Roadrunners (28-4, 20-4 NWAC South) beat the Cougars (7-16, 6-14 NWAC South) 4-2 in the first contest, then 10-2 in the second contest which was a seven inning game.

Game 1: Clackamas got off to a hot start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and didn't allow Linn-Benton to get on the board until the top of the sixth inning. In the sixth Aiden Hazen laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Noah Scharer, then a Boston Caron single drove in Bryant Starr to even the score at 2-2. 

The Roadrunners would take the lead in the seventh inning on a Starr single that scored Nick Biagi. Linn-Benton would add an insurance run in the ninth on a Hazen RBI single that again scored Scharer. Evan Lehnert picked up the win in relief with four strong innings of work.

Game 2: The second contest, scheduled for seven innings, saw Linn-Benton score early as Biagi hit an RBI single to score Scharer, then Caron drove in Biagi and Starr in the first inning to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. Clackamas would get a run back in the second inning but the Roadrunners created some separation in the fifth inning.

Chanz Flores smashed a solo home run to get the inning started, then Tyson McGrorty drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Biagi. Scharer then earned two RBIs with a single that scored Mark Carpenter and Matthew Talbot to make it 7-1. Seth Willy scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, before Clackamas put another run on the board to make it 8-2 heading into the final inning.

Jacob Lindstrom hit an RBI double to score McGrorty, then Lindstrom would score on a ground out from Chanz Flores to make the final 10-2. Talon McGrorty earned the win after pitching five strong innings, striking out four and allowing just three hits.

Linn-Benton will next play Southwestern Oregon on Wednesday, April 15 at Dick McClain Field in Albany. Those nine inning games are scheduled for 1:00PM and 4:00PM starts.
