Linn-Benton Drops Opening Game to Knights

LONGVIEW, Wash. - The Linn-Benton baseball team fell 6-5 to the Wenatchee Valley College Knights in the opening round of the NWAC Baseball Championships. The Roadrunners (35-10, 27-9 NWAC South) remain alive in the double elimination tournament despite the setback.

The Knights (32-19, 19-9 NWAC East) were the designated visiting team and got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Bryant Starr evened the score 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo homerun, then a Nick Biagi single drove in both Chanz Flores and Noah Scharer to make it 3-1 in favor of the Roadrunners.

Wenatchee had an answer, scoring five runs in the fifth inning to make it 6-3 for the Knights. Linn-Benton chipped away at the deficit, as a Biagi sacrifice fly scored Scharer in the sixth inning, then Scharer's RBI single in the seventh inning scored Aiden Hazen to make it 6-5 in favor of the Knights.

Linn-Benton were unable to score in the final two innings allowing the Knights to secure the win. The Roadrunners will next take the field against Pierce College in Game Five of the NWAC Championships at 9:30AM on Friday, May 22.
