Roadrunners Shutout Raiders to Advance
LONGVIEW, Wash. - The Linn-Benton baseball team had a strong effort all-around as they kept their season alive with a 5-0 win against the Raiders of Pierce College. The Roadrunners (36-10, 27-9 NWAC South) got outstanding pitching and defense to go along with strong efforts at the plate to advance in the NWAC Baseball Championships.
Playing the first game of day two of the tournament, Linn-Benton was the designated visiting team and got off to a fast start with Noah Scharer's RBI single in the top of the first inning to score Bryant Starr. Starr then increased the lead in the top of the second inning with a single that scored both Tyson McGrorty and Kellen Segel to make it 3-0 Roadrunners.
McGrorty would extend the lead in the top of the ninth inning on a two-run homerun that scored Jack Lussier and made it 5-0 for the Roadrunners.
That was more than enough run support for Evan Lehnert who had a terrific start, going seven innings allowing just three hits and striking out seven batters. Dominic Daffron came on in relief and earned the save while striking out three batters.
Linn-Benton will move on to play in game ten of the NWAC Championships which is slated for a 2:00PM first pitch on Saturday, May 23. The Roadrunners will play the loser of the match-up between Edmonds College and Lane Community College.
