PASCO, Wash. - Linn-Benton volleyball earned a three set sweep in their first match of the day, then had their comeback hopes dashed in a five set loss. The Roadrunners won 3-0 against tournament hosts Columbia Basin College, then fell to Tacoma Community College 3-2.
Linn-Benton (4-2, 0-0 NWAC South) started strong and never looked back, defeating the hosts 27-25, 25-17, 25-18. Freshman Lana Gillis had a team-high 11 kills, while Sophomore Annabelle Peterson had seven kills. Freshman setter Klaire Bitter had 18 assists in the victory.
In the second match of the day, Tacoma jumped out to a first set victory, but the Roadrunners would even the match at 1-1 after winning the second set. Tacoma would take the third set but Linn-Benton would not go away and forced a fifth set. The Titans (4-4-1, 0-0 NWAC West) pulled away in the final set to claim the win.
The Roadrunners will look to finish strong in Pasco on Saturday, August 30 as they play two more matches. They will take on Whatcom Community College at 9:00AM and then will wait to see who they play in their fourth and final match of the tournament.
