Roadrunners Sweep Lakers in Coos Bay
COOS BAY, Ore. - The Linn-Benton baseball team came away with two road wins as they defeated the Lakers of Southwestern Oregon Community College 5-3 and 7-2 in a doubleheader.
Game 1: The Roadrunners (14-2, 6-2, NWAC South) got off to a hot start as they scored the first five runs of the contest. Kellen Segel earned an RBI as he drove in Noah Scharer in the top of the first inning, then a Seth Willy sacrifice fly sent Mark Carpenter across the plate in the second inning and made it 2-0 in favor of the visitors. Scharer would score again in the third inning on a wild pitch.
In the sixth inning Aiden Hazen reached base on a defensive error, allowing Carpenter to score again, then in the seventh a Boston Caron single drove in Bryant Starr to make it 5-0 for the Roadrunners. The Lakers (7-9, 2-6 NWAC South) rallied late, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh and one more in the eighth but could not complete the comeback. Emmett Stacher earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners with six scoreless innings and eight strikeouts. Kyle Miller secured the save with two strikeouts in relief.
Game 2: Linn-Benton again jumped out to an early advantage, scoring the first five runs of the second game, scheduled for seven innings. Camden Johnson drew a walk in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch that scored Scharer to make it 1-0. In the second inning Landon Lea reached base on a defensive error scoring Tyson McGrorty, then Lea would score on a Scharer double. Jackson Fera would then reach base on a wild pitch to score Scharer and make it 4-0 in favor of the visitors.
Lea would continue the offensive action for the Roadrunners as he reached base on a defensive error to send Jacob Lindstrom across the plate. The Lakers would get two runs back in the bottom of the third inning to make it 5-2, but would not get any closer. In the seventh and final inning Linn-Benton would get two more insurance runs. A Scharer double would score Lindstrom and then a Starr sacrifice fly scored Lea to make the final score 7-2. Cooper Yudhishthu earned the victory with four strong innings and Caiden Thomsen slammed the door with three consecutive strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win.
Linn-Benton next faces the Titans of Lane Community College on Saturday, March 14. Those games are scheduled for 1:00PM and 3:00PM start times.
