EUGENE, Ore. - The Linn-Benton women's basketball team collected their first two wins of the season as they participated in the Titan Classic hosted at Lane Community College. The team played three games in three days starting on Friday, November 21 and finishing on November 23. The Roadrunners dropped their opening game to a tough Treasure Valley Community College team, before defeating Pierce College and Centralia College in their next two games.
Game 1: Linn-Benton (2-3, 0-0 NWAC South) opened their weekend with yet another top ten opponent in the tenth ranked Chukars of Treasure Valley Community College. The Roadrunners battled throughout the first half, trailing 27-26 at halftime. The Chukars (4-1, 0-0 NWAC East) used a big third quarter to build upon their lead and ended up with a 73-50 win.
Anneka Steen led the attack for Linn-Benton with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Game 2: The Roadrunners earned their first win of the season as they defeated Pierce College (0-4, 0-0 NWAC West) 86-65 on Saturday. Linn-Benton led 42-37 at halftime, then used a 27-14 run in the third quarter to secure the victory.
Sadie Wendring scored a game-high 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Steen also had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Nalia Wagar had 13 points, making three of six shots from behind the three point line.
Game 3: Linn-Benton jumped out to an early lead in their third game, building a 27-12 lead after the first quarter against Centralia (0-4, 0-0 NWAC West). The Roadrunners would build upon their lead and despite a strong fourth quarter rally by the Blazers, would win the contest 77-69.
Wendring again led the team in scoring with 21 points on her way to being named to the All-Tournament Team. Lydia Gray scored 15 points in the win, and Steen had 11 points as well.
The team will next take the floor on Tuesday, December 2 as they host Oregon Club. That game is scheduled for a 7:30PM tip-off.
