Women’s Basketball Hosts Roadrunner Classic

ALBANY, Ore. - The Linn-Benton women's basketball team hosted their annual Roadrunner Classic and welcomed a pair of top ranked opponents to Albany. The Roadrunners (3-10, 0-0 NWAC South) faced the sixth ranked Vikings of Big Bend Community College and the third ranked Warriors of Walla Walla Community College.

Game 1: The hosts showed their grit, hanging tough with Big Bend (11-1, 0-0 NWAC East) and looked to be ready for the upset, but the Vikings made enough plays to come away with the 64-57 victory. Sadie Wendring led the way offensively for the Roadrunners, scoring a game-high 19 points while teammates Lydia Gray and Lanie Bateman each had 12 points.

Game 2: Facing the defending NWAC champion Walla Walla Warriors (10-2, 0-0 NWAC East) for the second time this season, Linn-Benton could not keep pace with the visitors, falling 68-42 in their final preseason game. Bateman was the high scorer for the Roadrunners with 17 points to go along with nine rebounds. Nalia Wagar had 10 points as well.

The Roadrunners next game will see them open south region play at home as they host the Storm of Chemeketa Community College. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, January 7 with a 7:30PM start time. All south region games this year will be doubleheaders with the men's team playing first and the women's team playing second.
