ROSEBURG, Ore. - The Linn-Benton women's basketball team jumped out to an early lead, but could not hold on and dropped a road contest to the tenth-ranked Riverhawks of Umpqua Community College 87-81. The Roadrunners(4-12, 1-2 NWAC South) led after the first quarter 26-18, before cooling off in the second quarter.
The Riverhawks (11-5, 2-1 NWAC South) took a six point advantage into half time and the teams played even in the final two quarters as Umpqua secured the victory. Sadie Wendring scored a game-high 33 points while Lainie Bateman put up 22 points of her own. Anneka Steen notched another double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Linn-Benton created issues for Umpqua on defense as they forced 16 Riverhawk turnovers including 11 steals. Umpqua was led by the 29 points and 25 rebounds of Kaelyn Shoemaker, one of four players in double figure scoring for the hosts.
The Roadrunners will next play Saturday, January 17 as they host the top-ranked Clackamas Community College Cougars. That game is scheduled for a 4:00PM tip-off.
